Dear my future clients,
This blog might lose some fans of this page, BUT it is something that needs to be said.
Ever since I started my own business as a photographer, I get so many inquiries that ask me if I can do my photography service with for free or really cheap price…
There is a HUGE misconception of being freelance photographer. With today's vast technology of convenient iphone camera and cheesy instagram filters, doing photography seems an easy business....well, it's not....Nor will those expensive "Professional" camera or lens make "amazing" photo.
So what really counts? What makes great pictures worth your money?
It takes a lot of work, time, patience and sensitivity...
When I shoot photographs, I focus and frame like there is no tomorrow. Because I know those crucial moment I try to capture will never come again.... regardless, I am shooting live performance, street scene, or portraits. There is always this "fraction of second" that expresses human-element which is truly honest and beautiful. What Henri Cartier Bresson calls " A Decisive Moment" cannot be paused again. "Life is once and forever" and it is my job to capture it.
When I post-process photographs I took, I put my heart and soul on each image. I cannot help taking a long time on it because I pay attention on every pixel and grain that will affect the overall picture. It takes great deal of patience to create a photograph that touches your heart.
My photographs have particular styles which come from my dramatic theatre and cinematography background. They all come from my own naked soul and no other photographer with expensive professional camera can imitate them. Now how much would that worth?
This type of attitude can be generally considered "pretentious" but I think it is very crucial to all artists. In fact, it is not only crucial, but is actually a REQUIREMENT for every starving artist to stay alive in this age.
I hope this blog can inspire my good artist friends in some way and also help me connect with people who truly value my work.
